From Chronic Disease to a Better Future

Chronic Disease Reversal

Most of us regret the wasted time we have spent during our lifetime in idle or destructive behaviors. For myself, the hours I spent as a young person staring at the television or in more recent years streaming too many movies, not getting enough sleep and worrying about matters that were beyond my control were all counterproductive. Few of us can look back over our lifetime with complete satisfaction. All of us have made mistakes. We could have done better and we can do better now.

The past is gone and it is the present that matters. Does your current health situation match the vision of what you want it to be? If not, are you waiting for a magic future to come when everything turns around in a positive fashion and your health issues go away on their own? Have you said to yourself repeatedly, Tomorrow I will do better. Tomorrow, I will perfect myself. Tomorrow I will identify why I have chronic health problems. Tomorrow becomes today the next morning, however. With procrastination that new era of a healthier, more balanced life never arrives and we continue to suffer.

Part of the tragedy of chronic disease which now afflicts the majority of adult Americans as well as many young people is that it significantly limits our potential and negatively influences every aspect of our lives getting even worse with age…and that most cases of chronic disease can be reversed (read article “Successfully Reverse Chronic Disease: It Can be Accomplished!).

Hope for a better tomorrow is fine. Unassisted, however, hope is as unproductive as a good intention and life is full of good intentions which never materialize into reality.

It is easy to become enmeshed in the complexities of life’s temptations and it is easy to continually make resolutions for tomorrow. As W.C. Fields once said, “It’s easy to stop drinking; I’ve done it a thousand times.!”

Slavery to habits such as gluttony, the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco and other toxic habits or exposures, sexual over-gratification, addiction to cell phones, poor diet, over work, over reliance on computers and social media among a myriad of other ill habits detract from our vitality. Chronic Disease and shortened life are the outcome.

Life is hard. A teacher of mine told me, “Life is the realm of blood and tears.” Indeed, when we look at the brutalities of nature and the tragedies that occur around us it is hard not to be discouraged and fall into a there is nothing I can do attitude so I might just as well “enjoy myself”. Such an attitude, however, inevitably leads to even greater self-abuse and suffering.

Ignoring the causes of our discomforts and treating disease with medical and alternative medical therapies supplies additional stressors a body already overburdened and depleted cannot afford. Uncovering and addressing causes and employing health building measures specific to the needs of the individual enables each person to become captains of their own ship which is essential to having a fuller more satisfying existence.

Life is brief. As we get older, the years pass even more quickly. If you are healthy and able to use your time productively, life will be filled with greater contentment and ease. Sacrifice your health with poor habits heading down the path of drug and physician dependency and your years will be fewer and they will be more burdensome. Taking charge of your health and taking the right path is a road to avoiding disease, hospitals, drugs, invalidism, dependence on others and misery.

How you order your present and future life is largely in your hands. With the right actions we move towards vigorous health. In doing so, when we reach the end of our days, we can look back on a responsible life that took full advantage of our potential and allowed us to experience joy in living and being of service to others.

Best wishes from the Goldberg Tener Clinic for a healthy, blessed, productive New Year.
