Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis

Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (P/PA) are autoimmune disorders that are widespread in our population. They are also a common reason patients come to the Goldberg Tener Clinic for help. The ongoing scaling, itchiness and systemic symptoms these problems create including the joint, muscle, ligament and tendon based pains that many patients experience, makes P/PA serious concerns that can lead to disfigurement and disability. These are often life altering diseases under medical care with ongoing, dangerous,medical treatments. It need not be that way.

Psoriasis is more than skin deep. This is clearly illustrated by the fact that a significant percentage of patients will have their skin disease accompanied by or in some cases preceded by arthritic symptoms that can advance to significant disabilities.

Every person, every patient, is very different from the next even those with the identical medical “diagnosis”.  Each case must be evaluated and addressed in light of the individual factors that are involved in that person’s case. This is much different than in the medical world where the process is to name diseases based on symptoms and apply pharmaceutical treatments to everyone having those signs and symptoms.

Rather than simply name symptoms and apply drugs, patients with Psoriasis / Psoriatic Arthritis require an in depth look at their physical constitution including their immune, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems as well as contributing nutritional and lifestyle factors that have factored into the development of their disease.

It is the medical naming of symptoms and treating those symptoms rather than addressing causal factors that is the primary reason why patients under medical care with Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis fail to obtain anything more then temporary improvement in symptoms often followed by severe health destroying repercussions from the symptom suppressing drugs prescribed.

Conducting a thorough patient history, exploring the patient’s life from childhood forward along with detailed standard and functional laboratory studies are necessary to determine the root causes of the Psoriasis /Psoriatic Arthritis in each patient. This then enables putting together a comprehensive health-building program to literally “Re-Create” the patient’s health picture. Current medical treatments today largely revolve around the use of steroids (e.g. prednisone), steroid creams and the use of a dangerous class of widely used drugs called “Biologicals” going under such product names as Enbrel and Humira. New drugs in this category i.e. monoclonal antibodies are being developed continuously. These drugs literally suppress symptoms by turning off portions of the immune system that guard us against infection and malignancy.

The dangers of these drugs are extreme. They do not build health and the financial costs are sky high and ongoing. When the drugs succeed in suppressing symptoms, the effects are generally short lived and may be followed by severe exacerbation of symptoms. Relief of symptoms is rarely complete and ongoing, lifetime, “medical disease management” is the rule. Pharmaceutical Treatments do not build health. They can only suppress symptoms and lead to more complex problems over time. Serious infections and lymphoma are just two of the possible outcomes.

Addressing the actual causes of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis is an entirely different approach and in our experience a tremendously more effective and safer one.  After we conduct a thorough work up/investigation of the patient, a comprehensive, individualized Bio-Hygienic Re-Creative Program is put into place. The individual is not to be drugged or simply given a myriad of “alternative” medical remedies such as herbs, homeopathic remedies, glandulars and other potions and pills that only burden the body further.
