Regaining Health From Chronic Disease…A Different Challenge.

Regaining Health From Chronic Disease…A Different Challenge.

Paul A. Goldberg MPH, DC, DACBN, DCBCN
Director, The Goldberg Tener Clinic for Chronic Disease Reversal

Chronic Diseases under medical management last indefinitely…literally a lifetime… while the patient sinks further and further into a deep abyss. The Goldberg Tener Clinic, utilizing an individually applied Bio-Hygienic Approach to chronic disease reversal, takes a more optimistic view. Our optimism is backed by a history of over forty years of returning chronically ill patients to reliable health.

“Our optimism is backed by a history of over forty years of returning chronically ill patients to reliable health. ”

The road back to good health from chronic disease is rarely easy or quick. The BioHygiene System has returned thousands of chronically ill patients to health but it is not a miracle. It is the outcome of understanding causes and re-creating the body as opposed to treating symptoms. BioHygiene does not supersede Natural Law. It works with Nature to create the right conditions for health to return.

There are obstacles that must be overcome with some patients. Patience is a virtue in short supply and some are in a frenzied hurry to get what they want right now. To lose our health takes time and so does regaining it. Once the body has entered into chronic disease it has succumbed to the conditions placed upon it. BioHygiene involves recreating the body to its maximum potential not “treating it”. Old cells must be broken down and healthier cells formed. In patients with chronic disease this can take from 12 to 24 months of intense effort depending on age, past surgeries, drug usage, etc. This is not getting well from a cold or the flu…this is remaking the body and evolving out of chronic disease.

Many patients have lengthy histories involving numerous medical and alternative practitioners, spending tens of thousands of dollars on tests and treatments and only getting worse. Sometimes they carry this frustration to our practice. We are sympathetic but ask patients to understand we are not responsible for the care or costs they previously incurred. BioHygiene is a much different approach and requires adapting a new attitude and evolving out of chronic disease as opposed to medical or alternative treatments. When patients come to our office they must be ready to start fresh.

BioHygiene does not mix with medical and medical alternative approaches. We employ interview techniques, examinations and laboratory procedures done to our specifications. We utilize labs we have long experience and confidence in. We interpret and apply the results to our own standards developed since the 1970’s. We do not take insurance assignment, as we will not have insurance companies dictate a medical approach convenient for them. Our patients have been down that failed path.

Overindulgence in exercise, work, sex, drug and alcohol usage, poor diet, lack of rest and sleep, mental stressors and a lack of health giving influences are common predecessors to chronic disease. These and other factors must be addressed if we are to recover. In BioHygiene we delve into the patient’s past uncovering long-term causal factors that have factored into the evolution of their disease.

Chronic disease often begins insidiously starting with digestive issues, fatigue, skin outbreaks, joint pain and other acute symptoms leading most to seek out medical or alternative medical treatments having no bearing on why those problems started.

Antibiotics, antacids, steroids, hormone replacement and a variety of painkillers leave causes untouched. The body is left to deal not only with the initial problems but also with the toxic effects of the treatments including those from the Alternative and Functional Medicine Crowd whose drugs and nostrums often have served to complicate the patient’s condition and interfere with recovery. Plying patients with treatments unrelated to causal factors fails to restore health as millions of chronically ill people can attest to.

Many begin to suffer chronic health issues as children. Allergies, asthma, and behavioral disorders are all rapidly increasing in terms of both frequency and severity. The numbers of young people growing up with poor resistance and environmental sensitivities is increasing. Our neighborhoods are no longer busy with children playing outdoors. Where are they? In their rooms dumbstruck by the screen on their computers playing video games and talking on their cell phones using the latest “Apps”… all behaviors now swept into the realm of normalcy.

If not already sickly as children by our twenties and thirties aches and pains frequently appear. Bowel issues, the new plague of eosinophilic esophagitis, emotional issues, skin problems, etc., all are signs things are amiss and that chronic disease lurks outside the front door. We respond by treating symptoms till later a chronic disease develops as if “out of the blue”. When labeled with titles such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, etc., we imagine we must have caught something, little realizing that our health has long been on the decline.

As the culmination of adverse habits and genetics comes to the surface a short cut to health is sought. Chronic diseases cannot be resolved overnight. Health cannot be restored without doing the hard work of re-creating the body.

“The patient is advised not to expect instant relief, that ups and downs are common and that guidance along the way is critical”

BioHygiene investigates causal factors through an extensive interview, physical examination and laboratory analysis. We present our findings to the patient detailing what factors we have uncovered that contributed to the evolution of disease. An initial plan that will change over time is presented. The patient is advised not to expect instant relief, that ups and downs are common and that guidance along the way is critical. An exacerbation of symptoms is like to occur initially as the healing potential of the body is increased and the tearing down of old tissues and building up of new ones is given the opportunity to occur. Despite being forewarned some still expect instant relief from conditions that took half a lifetime to develop. Some want to continue the same habits that led to their problems. Insanity is defined as doing the same action over and over and expecting a different result.

There are those willing to enact some aspects of a plan, cherry picking what they will and will not do. Jane is willing to change her diet but not give up her compulsive over-exercising. John is willing to give up coffee but not go to bed prior to midnight.  Nature is not so selective. The will to get well must be accompanied by a commitment that includes addressing all the factors that led to the genesis of disease and to do so on an ongoing, consistent basis. Nature does not make bargains.

We are sympathetic to the patient who says they must continue with the job they hate for financial reasons. We understand the patient who contends they must continue to work a nightshift even though that does not allow them to obtain sufficient sleep. We sympathize with the couple sending little Jimmy to the expensive private school that requires Dad to work overtime and other reasons presented for not being able to follow the health reform methods suggested.

Our being sympathetic, however, does not get the job done. Nature demands what nature demands and we don’t have the power to negotiate with her. Sacrifices have to be made to recover from chronic disease…we often must retreat from the battle in order to win the war. This might mean cutting back on the hours we work and sending Jimmy to a public rather than private school so Dad can reduce his working hours. It might mean going to bed early, eliminating poisonous drug and food habits and addressing a myriad of other health destroyers.

How long does it take to recover from chronic disease? The patient’s age, what reserves they possess, their drug history, genetic background, level of familial support, etc. all are considerations. Will the patient give full attention to all aspects needed for healing or just focus on a single aspect such as diet or supplements ignoring other recommendations?
